He has judged state championship retrieving trials in every state of Australia currently conducting a State Championship. In one year 2009 Noel judged fourteen separate retrieving trials in four different states.

Noel’s judging appointments have included 82 All Age Stakes, 48 Restricted Stakes and 43 Novice Stakes.

Noel has managed retrieving trials for six different clubs which have in the past or are currently conducting retrieving trials in Victoria and South Australia. These clubs are the Weimaraner Club of Victoria, the Labrador Retriever Club of Victoria, the Central Highlands Working Gundog Club, the Victorian Gundog Club, the Flatcoated Retriever Association of Victoria and the Labrador Retriever Club of South Australia. Noel is managing retrieving trials for three different clubs in Victoria in 2017.

Noel first managed a retrieving trial for the Weimaraner Club of Victoria back in the early 1980’s. He managed the inaugural retrieving trial conducted by the Flatcoated Retriever Association of Victoria in 2001.

Noel regularly acts as a gun steward or game steward at the retrieving trials at which he competes.

Noel has sourced and supplied game for up to six clubs conducting retrieving trials in Victoria. Noel also regularly supplies game for the conduct of the Victorian Retrieving Trial Championship. In some years Noel has supplied up to 2000 pigeons for the conduct of trials in Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania. Some of these birds have had to be sourced from suppliers interstate and Noel has had to travel interstate to pick up the birds. He supplied a large majority of the pigeons used in the 2003 State and National Retrieving Trial Championship conducted in Tasmania and the 2007 and 2012 State and National Retrieving Trial Championships conducted in Victoria.

Since the introduction of RATG as a discipline Noel has also become a RATG judge and officiated at six RATG events in addition to his appointments at Retrieving Trials.

Owner/Breeding

Noel and his wife Kate under the Reveirter prefix have bred five dogs that have gone on to attain their Retrieving Trial Championship titles.

Descendants from Noel’s foundation bitch “Tess” RT Ch Firefield Yankee Belle CM have gone on to win two National Retrieving Trial Championships and gain five Grand Champion titles.

Tess’ descendants include more than twelve Retrieving Trial Champions, another 20 dogs which have gained the title of Restricted Retrieving Dog and other descendants which have gained the title of All Age or Novice Retrieving Dog.

Handling/Trial History

Noel’s background in retrieving trials goes back over 30 years although there was a break of 10 years between dogs at one stage from 1984 to 1993.

The first dog Noel trialled seriously was a Labrador Retriever “Tess” (Rt Ch Firefield Yankee Belle CM). Tess lived until 17 years of age and was accepted onto the ANKC Field and Retrieving Trial Hall of Fame in 2009.

Noel’s second Labrador was Tess’ son “Tike” (Gr Rt Ch Reveirter Jet Kite). Tike gained over 350 championship points and won four State Championships, placed in five National Championships and placed in a total of 25 of the 38 Retrieving Trial Championships in which he competed. Tike also gained entry to the ANKC Field and Retrieving Trial Hall of Fame in 2010. Tike also won the Dogs Victoria Retrieving Trial Dog of the Year three times and the Victorian Gundog Club Retrieving Trial Dog of the Year five times.

Noel has now trained and/or trialled a total of seven dogs to the title of Retrieving Trial Champion including two who went on to gain the title of Grand Retrieving Trial Champion “Tike” and more recently “Moose” Gr RT Ch Reveirter Swan Hill who qualified for the title of Grand Retrieving Trial Champion in July 2015. The other dogs he has trained and/or trialled to the title of Retrieving Trial Champion include RT Ch Reveirter Snow Storm, RT Ch Terraway Avalanche, RT Ch Reveirter Cup Makybediva and RT Ch Reveirter Loch Fyntalloch.

Dogs Noel has trained and trialled have won over 90 All Age Stakes, won eight state championships and placed in seven National Retrieving Trial Championships.

Noel’s commitment to putting back into the hobby he enjoys has certainly affected the performance and results of his dogs.
